TiviMate — the enthusiast's choice

TiviMate is what people move to once they have used IPTV for a few months and know what irritates them. It fixes all of it.

  • Near-instant channel switching thanks to adjacent-channel pre-buffering.
  • Genuinely good favourites, custom groups, reordering and hiding.
  • Multiple playlists in one app — invaluable when comparing providers.
  • Best-in-class EPG with catch-up support where available.
  • Recording to local or network storage (premium).
  • Picture-in-picture multiview for several matches at once (premium).

The catch: Android only. No Tizen, webOS, iOS or tvOS version exists and none is planned. This single fact drives a lot of hardware decisions.

IPTV Smarters Pro — the all-rounder

The most widely available IPTV app, running on essentially everything. It is not the most powerful, but it is competent everywhere and it is free.

  • Available on Android, iOS, tvOS, Tizen and webOS.
  • Accepts both Xtream Codes and M3U.
  • Clean split between Live, Movies and Series with VOD artwork.
  • Simple enough that a non-technical household member can navigate it.
  • Multi-screen support on some versions.

If you are setting up for someone else, or you own a mix of devices and want the same interface everywhere, this is the pragmatic answer.

Smart IPTV — for Samsung and LG

The workhorse for native smart TV installs. It uses MAC-address registration rather than a login: the app shows your TV's MAC, you register it with your playlist on the developer's site, and the channels appear. A small one-off payment after the trial.

It is not feature-rich, but on a Samsung or LG set it does the job with no extra hardware.

GSE Smart IPTV — for Apple

The most dependable option across iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Broad format support including M3U, Xtream Codes and portal connections, with solid EPG handling. The interface is dated but it works consistently, which on a platform with few options counts for a lot.

OTT Navigator — for tinkerers

Extremely configurable, with fine-grained control over decoders, buffering, EPG sources and layout. The learning curve is steeper than TiviMate and the interface is denser, but if you want to adjust everything, this is the app that lets you.

Settings that improve any app

  1. Raise the buffer if streams start slowly or stutter. A one-second longer start is worth stable playback.
  2. Hide unused channel groups. If you never watch a particular region, hiding it makes the whole app faster.
  3. Build favourites properly, once. Ten minutes of setup transforms daily use.
  4. Add the EPG URL. Many people never do, then wonder why the guide is blank.
  5. Try hardware decoding if 4K stutters — and software decoding if you get audio without video.

Do not pay twice for the same thing

Your subscription and your app are separate purchases. A provider should never require a specific paid app, and an app should never require a specific provider. If someone tells you their service only works through an app they supply personally, that is a closed loop designed to make leaving difficult.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best IPTV app?

TiviMate on Android devices, for its channel switching, favourites management and EPG handling. IPTV Smarters Pro is the best all-rounder because it runs on nearly every platform and is free.

Is TiviMate better than IPTV Smarters?

For live TV on Android, yes — faster switching, better favourites and groups, multiple playlists and optional recording. IPTV Smarters wins on availability, since it runs on iOS, tvOS, Tizen and webOS where TiviMate does not exist.

Do I have to pay for an IPTV app?

No. IPTV Smarters and the free tiers of TiviMate and OTT Navigator handle live TV perfectly well. Paid unlocks add recording, multiple playlists and multiview. Smart IPTV asks for a small one-off fee after its trial.

Can I use the same subscription in different apps?

Yes. Your credentials are not tied to any app, so you can use TiviMate on a Firestick, IPTV Smarters on a phone and VLC on a laptop with the same line — as long as you stay within your simultaneous stream limit.

Why is my programme guide empty in the app?

The EPG URL has almost certainly not been added. Most apps ask for the playlist and the EPG separately, and people frequently enter only the first. Add the EPG URL from your welcome email in the app's settings and reload.
