Apps available in the LG Content Store
IPTV Smarters
The straightforward choice. Xtream Codes login or M3U URL, proper EPG support, and a clear split between live channels, movies and series. Install it from the Content Store and enter the credentials from your welcome email.
Smart IPTV (SIPTV)
Same MAC-address model as on Samsung: the app shows your TV's MAC address, you register it with your playlist on the developer's site, and the channels appear. Small one-off fee after the trial period.
Net IPTV / OTT Navigator
Availability varies by region and model year, but both are worth checking if the first two are not listed for your set.
Setting up IPTV Smarters on webOS
- Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store.
- Search for IPTV Smarters and install it.
- Open the app and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Enter Server URL, Username and Password exactly as they appear in your welcome email.
- Wait for the channel list to load, then add your EPG URL under settings.
- Build a favourites list — with thousands of channels, this is what makes the TV usable day to day.
The Magic Remote's pointer makes favourite-building far quicker than on other platforms. Spend five minutes on it once and you will never scroll the full list again.
Picture settings that matter for live TV
LG televisions ship with processing that flatters demo content and actively harms live sport. Two changes make a visible difference:
- Turn TruMotion off, or to Cinematic Movement at most. Motion interpolation creates halo artefacts around fast-moving balls and players.
- Set picture mode to Filmmaker or Cinema rather than Vivid. Vivid crushes detail and oversaturates skin tones.
- If your set is OLED, enable Logo Luminance Adjustment to reduce burn-in risk from static channel logos.
- Disable Energy Saving mode, which dims the panel unpredictably during darker scenes.
OLED owners: static channel logos and sports scoreboards sitting in the same pixels for hours are the classic burn-in scenario. Use the pixel refresher periodically and avoid leaving a news channel paused on screen for long stretches.
Network setup
- Ethernet if the port is reachable — most LG sets have one.
- Otherwise force the 5GHz band in Settings → Network.
- Around 25 Mbps for HD, 40 Mbps or more for 4K.
- Keep other heavy downloads off the network during live events.
Where webOS falls short
- No TiviMate — the best IPTV app is Android-only.
- Channel switching is slower than a dedicated streaming box.
- Very large playlists can take a while to load on the TV's processor.
- Firmware updates occasionally break third-party apps until they are updated.
For most households the native route is good enough and the simplicity is worth it. If you want maximum speed and the best app, a Firestick 4K Max or an Android TV box plugged into the LG gives you both while keeping the excellent panel.
Common LG problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| App not in Content Store | Model too old — use an external streaming device |
| Login fails (401) | Trailing space in the copied server URL |
| Empty guide | EPG URL not entered in app settings |
| Stutter on fast sport | Turn TruMotion off |
| Buffering in the evening only | Provider capacity, not the TV |
Frequently asked questions
Which IPTV app is best for LG Smart TV?
IPTV Smarters from the LG Content Store is the best starting point — it takes a normal Xtream Codes login and handles EPG properly. Smart IPTV is the alternative, using MAC-address registration instead of a login.
Can I install IPTV on an older LG TV?
On 2016-2017 webOS sets, app availability is inconsistent, and on 2015 or older models the apps are generally unavailable. An external Firestick or Android box is the practical answer for those TVs.
Why does live sport look blurry or strange on my LG?
Almost always TruMotion, LG's motion interpolation. Turn it off or set it to Cinematic Movement, and switch the picture mode from Vivid to Filmmaker or Cinema.
Is TiviMate available on LG webOS?
No. TiviMate is an Android application, so it will not run on webOS. If you specifically want TiviMate, connect an Android TV box or a Firestick to the LG.
Do I need to worry about burn-in on an LG OLED with IPTV?
It is worth managing. Static channel logos and scoreboards in fixed positions are the classic risk. Enable Logo Luminance Adjustment, run the pixel refresher periodically, and avoid leaving a paused news channel on screen for hours.
